Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought only 3 people within the organization really knew about the sexual assault allegation? Bowman, Quenneville, and MacIssac?

How do you punish a team today for the actions committed by people 10+ years ago, none of whom are still with the organization. Im not trying to excuse or saying anything, it's a open question about dishing out punishment.

Shouldn't that non-existent draft punishment have happened last year though?

Agreed. However, the NCAA banned Penn State from Bowl Games for 4 years even after the cleaned house after the Sandusky scandal. It's not unprecedented.

That said, the examples that Ryan brought up were for cap and draft circumvention, not for off-ice issues. With the CBA, it's pretty hard to hurt a team financially, so let's say they did do what happened to NJ and CBJ...that wouldn't have been for the 2022 draft, so they'd still have won the upcoming lottery.

Exactly. Two years ago, but yes.

He's written about the Penguins and their sexual assault coverups many a times, but thanks for coming by once.

Absolutely there is precedent. I hate PSU, but even I defended them saying how ridiculous it was that students and athletes would suffer for the sins committed when they were young kids and had nothing to do with it.

I think it falls on the owner. The report cleared him and said he had no knowledge of it. If it had gone up through the owner, then I think you would've seen punishments and/or forced him to sell the team.

Did you notice the look on John Davidson's face and the folding of his arms It looked to me like the NHL told him "Bend over John and enjoy it" You are getting the 4q2 award

Is the nhl really meant to punish them now? 10 years later because they won the lottery? Not the best take.

I by no means wanted Chicago to win. No team clearly tried to tank the season as bad as the hawks. Them winning is definitely eyebrow raising but I’m not sure how the league could explain punishing them now?

If he went to a small market team people would be saying it was rigged to grow the game there. He goes to a big market team and its all about revenue for the league. In this age of distrust some people are going to say anything is rigged if they dont agree with an outcome.

I agree with your first two sentences.

At the end of the day, i don't think it is rigged. Way too many moving parts but a live lottery gets rid of the suspicion. It just is a layup for the conspiracy theorists.

I'd agree with you if it was Arizona. But no one cares about Columbus and no one has cared about Anaheim since like 2008. Those markets are what they are and while they're not super lucrative, they're not financial craters like Arizona. Chicago was by far the best destination for the league. I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist, but this one is certainly questionable.

Me too 100%. Funny how people will buy into theories with a million 'moving parts' but not see a simple door to door scam when it punches them between the eyes. Merca'

To me, the more scandalous thing here is that the Blackhawks clearly cheat using the salary cap (although you cant call it cheating if its *technically* legal) and they clearly tanked the second half of this season (except when playing the Penguins ).

I find myself not liking them getting the pick more so for those reasons than because of what several people no longer with the organization did 13 years ago.

I dont think the league has the intellectual capability of pulling something like that off... but Weekes messing up pick #3 didnt help matters.
